The solemnity of the occasion was emphasised by the weather. Grey skies opened to produce a continual downpour on all those assembled in the churchyard for the dedication of the memorial. This was unveiled to honour the crew of the Wellington MK10 LP397 who died at Mayfield on June 13th 1944.
Ashbourne Town Band and a group from The Ashbourne Singers combined to play and sing movements from Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man (Hymn before Action and Sanctus) in addition to hymns.
After the wreath laying and dedication, the congregation assembled in the church for refreshments and were entertained by The Ashbourne Singers.
