Singers now start a junior section
When professional singer Linda Perry Smith came to live in Ashbourne it was not long before she saw there was a niche for a choir. She began the Ashbourne Singers last September, and a year on they are so successful that membership has grown to 50. People have joined from Ashbourne, the surrounding area and further afield. The choir performed their first concert in December, followed by an equally successful offering during the Ashbourne Festival in June. They have also performed at a cabaret evening.
Now Linda feels the time is right to branch out and form a junior section to the choir. To be known as YAS – Young Ashbourne Singers – the group will be open to all young people aged 10 to 18.
The first rehearsal will be on Tuesday, September 16th in St. John’s Church, from 6.30pm to 7.15pm and every Tuesday at the same time.
The adult choir meets at 7.45pm at the church each Tuesday.
Said Linda: “I just felt the time was right to start a youth contingent as a natural progression and I hope that lots of young people will come along.”
